ABOUT WESTMAN HOSPICE

Westman Hospice Association is a community-based, not-for-profit registered charity led by a group of committed members who are working to establish a free standing Hospice Palliative Care home that will serve Brandon and the surrounding Westman area. In order to achieve this goal we rely on the support of generous individuals and businesses within the community. Your support is critical

Currently the closest hospice is more than 200kms from Brandon. We are fundraising to make this dream, of a free standing hospice, a reality for Westman residents.

The idea for Westman Hospice Association Inc. to provide hospice care was born on May 7th, 1992 when a group of interested citizens met due to changes on the Palliative Care Unit at Brandon General Hospital. Studies have shown there was a need for a free standing hospice which led to the formation of Westman Association for Terminal Care in Hospice (WATCH). WATCH fosters a holistic approach to comfort care with a focus on the quality of life and dignity at the end of one’s life journey. WATCH trained volunteers who could go into a client’s home and support them through such activities as shopping, appointments, and respite or simply sit with the client at home or in hospital. The WATCH shared information on a continual basis through the local newspaper and/or presentations about its vision. This also involved fundraising to cover the expenses needed to maintain a coordinator and an office. In 2007, the name was changed to Westman Hospice Association (WHA). The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association provides support and guidance for our volunteers and members. Today, volunteers continue to provide prerequisite care for clients.

The purpose of WHA is to enhance the quality of life, promote dignity and provide exemplary end of life and bereavement care to clients and their loved ones facing a life-threatening illness. Our vision is to be an integral part of the community and recognized as trained volunteers in hospice care, providing excellent and compassionate care, community education, and bereavement services for clients and families within the Prairie Mountain Health Authority.

Ticket sales will run from Saturday March 1st 2025 10 am until Tuesday September 8th 2025 at 6pm.
