Country Club for our 3rd Annual Swing for Scoliosis Charity Golf Tournament. Your participation,

sponsorship, and prize donations will directly benefit the IWK Children’s Hospital’s Orthopaedic Team. We

hope to see you there!

Our inaugural tournament in July 2023 was a fantastic success, raising and donating $14,000 to the IWK

Orthopaedic Department. In July 2024, we raised $16,000, bringing our total to $30,000 over the past two

years. A big thank you to everyone who played a part in last year’s success!

Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine that can develop in infancy or early childhood; however, the

primary age of onset is 10-15 years old. Those who know our family are aware that our daughter was

diagnosed at age 12. Between November 2018 and March 2020, her spine grew into an s-shaped curve

(lumbar curve of 45 degrees and thoracic of 65 degrees). This required her to undergo a spinal fusion

surgery that included the insertion of two titanium rods along the length of her spine, more than 15 screws,

and two anchors to hold the rods in place, which was successfully completed on July 14th, 2020.

In partnership with the IWK Foundation and endorsed by Dr. Ron El-Hawary, IWK’s Chief of Pediatric

Orthopedics, Professor of Surgery (Orthopedics, Neurosurgery), Professor of Biomedical Engineering,

Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, 100% of the net proceeds raised will help provide patients with

the opportunity to access modern scoliosis treatment such as the Novel Spine Growth Measurement

Software which helps detect early curvatures associated with scoliosis.
