MADD Edmonton and Area mission is "to stop impaired driving and help the victims of this violent crime". The Rafflebox 50/50 will help us to keep supporting the community in various ways, such as sending local victims and their families to our national conferences, school presentations, Project Red Ribbon Campaign, Check Stops, just to name a few. Over 1 million students in Grades 7 to 12 see our School Assembly Program annually. At the heart of MADD Canada are our volunteers who include mothers, fathers, friends, business professionals, experts in the anti-impaired driving field and concerned citizens who want to make a difference in the fight against impaired driving.
We aim to offer support services to victims, heighten awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and to save lives and prevent injuries on our roads. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a terrible crime that touches all of our lives and is irresponsible, dangerous and intolerable act. Each day, just under 4 Canadians are killed and just under 175 Canadians are injured due to crashes involving alcohol or drugs.
The different Chapter Events we hold throughout the year are our Project Red Ribbon Campaign - Tie One On for Safety - the sober driving campaign, Checkstops - working with law enforcement on roadside checkstops, Buddy Cards, Designated driver packages, Local radio campaigns during the holiday and grad season, School Multimedia presentations and Business group presentations. We also have monthly support group meetings for the victims and their families as well as hold a Candlelight Vigil every December.
