Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services (HNWS) is excited to announce our online 50/50 fundraiser! Grab your tickets now!
Funds raised by this raffle will support the Little House, a safe haven for high-risk women and children.
In February of 2020, HNWS cut the ribbon on “The Little House”.
A partnership with Habitat for Humanity enabled HNWS to purchase a home which is landlocked on the shelter property. This partnership saw HNWS sever a piece of property for Habitat to complete a build, and Habitat completing a renovation of the “little house”, establishing a true partnership and win-win for both organizations.
The plan was to rent the house to a woman and her children who were in a high-risk situation after leaving an abusive relationship. In March of 2020, a global pandemic hit, and everything changed.
During the pandemic the house was used as a COVID-19 isolation space and was financially supported by the provincial Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. With isolation no longer necessary, this funding has ended. Add to that, a national housing crisis and the situation for the little house is dire.
The purpose of the house remains unchanged - to provide a safe haven for a woman and her children who are at high risk, where they can rebuild their lives in close proximity to the supports and security of the Shelter for up to 18 months.
Funds raised by this raffle will go towards paying off the mortgage so that the original purpose of the house can finally be achieved. Help support the little house and the many women and children who will come to call it home.
Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services provides 24-hour crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy, support and residential services to assist women aged 16 and older, with or without children, who need a place of safety from abuse.
Thank you for your support!
