The Calgary Curling Club is raising funds to help pay for the replacement of our aging ice shed floor. The current slab was constructed in 1977 when the previous building was destroyed by a fire. That makes the current slab 47 years old! It has been through a lot, including the major flood that hit the City and Club in 2013.
A replacement floor will cost between $1.7 million and $2.0 million. While we have some time before the project begins, we’re committed to exploring every possible avenue to raise the necessary funds.
The existing ice slab consists of 120 mm concrete slab with embedded low-density polyethylene (LDPE) refrigeration pipes on a 200 mm sand bed containing LDPE heating pipes
The new ice slab would consist of a 150 mm concrete slab with embedded cooling piping located 20 to 30 mm from the slab top surface. To prevent frost, the ice slab would be poured on 100 mm of expanded polystyrene insulation. A 0.15 mm polyethylene vapor barrier will be placed under the insulation. The supporting subgrade will be 200 mm of sand. The new ice slab and piping will be rated for 50 years of use
Your continued support is vital for the future of the Calgary Curling Club. Thank you and good luck!
