Who We Are
From humble beginnings as Parkland Humane SPCA in 1976, we became the Red Deer & District SPCA (for the Society of Cruelty to Animals) in 2000, then amended our name to the Central Alberta Humane Society (for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in 2017. While generations and names have changed, the base commitment to help animals in need and prevent cruelty to animals remains consistent and strong.
What does the Central Alberta Humane Society (CA Humane) do for our community?
- Medical care and rehoming for stray, homeless or abused companion animals
- Pet adoption – we are part of the solution. Our shelter pets have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, provided with a full health check, and are up to date on all vaccinations
- Pet Lost & Found Services – we have a dedicated platform and work with other organizations to get pets back home to their families
- Pet surrender services
- Our PALS (Prevent Another Litter Subsidy) Program – reduced fee spay and neuter program for low-income pet owners
- Emergency Boarding services for individuals in crisis or temporarily displaced
- A Pet Food Bank program for individuals needing temporary assistance
- Inclusive volunteering and pet fostering programs, including programs for adults with disabilities
- Children and youth day and summer camps
- Humane education youth presentations
- City of Red Deer dog licensing
- Dignified pet cremation services.
CA Humane is a not-for-profit charitable organization that is not government funded but rather supported through public donations and a variety of fundraising efforts like this 50/50.
